Waves to Wine 2012 Team Google and Friends

If you don’t like seeing pictures of athletes or people wearing spandex today’s post might not be for you, ha!  Over the weekend Chris biked in his first century race (100 miles) to help raise money to find a cure for MS.  While he peddled his heart out I follow him and the rest of the Google team around snapping pictures. The route was beautiful and I wish I would have taken more pictures of the scenery but I was too focused on looking for Google team jerseys (a very difficult task when there were hundreds of bikers). Today’s post is a long one but I wanted to document the event and give all of you an idea of what the day was like!   If you want to see more pictures look up #waves2wine or @umichkuz on Instagram.

Team Google, happy to be off their bikes!

Waves to Wine & Homemade Chicken Tenders

20.9.12

Chris is riding in the Waves to Wine bike race to cure MS this weekend.  It is a 100 mile trek that starts at the coast near San Francisco and it ends in wine country.  He has been training for it for the last 3 months with weekend bike rides.  He’s also been doing Bikram yoga and daily insanity workouts to get in better shape too.  Crazy to me considering he is the last person who needs to burn that many calories!

Make a Difference with Your Down Dog!

12.9.11

September 17th, 2011 …
make a difference with your Down Dog!
Anne Jelinek from Chrome Fit, this picture illustrates her true beauty!

My name is Anne Jelinek, you might remember me from my home gym organizing guest post a few months ago!  I am personal trainer and yoga instructor here in the Bay Area and am excited to reach out to Kuzak’s Closet readers with an amazing event!

Yoga for Hope is a fundraising event put on each year by City of Hope – much like a run/walk or a cycle event – to raise money for cancer, HIV/AIDs and Diabetes research.  At City of Hope, patients are offered gentle restorative Yoga classes as a complementary therapy to traditional treatments, and this program has had a profound impact on quality of life for many City of Hope patients.

In addition to researching complementary and alternative therapies, City of Hope conducts innovative, results oriented, patient focused research that examines the entire course of cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS —from diagnosis and treatment, from remission and relapse to survivorship.

There are a couple of ways that you can help change the lives of survivors in the Bay Area!

I’m asking yogis in the greater Bay Area to join Team Chrome Fit and hit the mat with me on September 17th in Union Square in San Francisco!  Included in the $35 registration fee is a special presentation, a yoga class with leading Bay Area instructors and workshops throughout the afternoon – as well as great vendors and the opportunity to network with like-minded yogis.

If you can’t attend the event or don’t practice yoga – please consider making a small donation to Team Chrome Fit’s fundraising efforts.  We are hoping to raise $350 for City of Hope this year!

Thanks so much to Amanda for the opportunity to reach out to you with this opportunity!

Steve Kuzak Memorial Golf Tournament

07.9.10

Over the weekend Chris and I were able to participate in the Spencer Buckley Memorial Golf Tournament at Verona Hills Golf Club.  This tournament helps raise money for the Steven Kuzak Memorial Scholarship Fund, a cause dear to our hearts.  Steven was my husband’s older brother, he passed away 9 summers ago in a boating accident.  Here are some pictures from the weekend, we had lots of laughs and it was great to catch up with family and friends.

Spring Cleaning Tips

6

30.3.10

In last week’s voter poll half of you said you started Spring cleaning and the other half of you said you haven’t even thought about it.  Starting any project is the hardest part so I wanted to share some spring cleaning tips to get you started, print this list and start checking them off!

Kitchen

  • Move your appliances from the wall and vacuum and mop the floor under them.  Using your vacuum attachment clean the coils and the nooks and crannies on the back of your oven and fridge.
  • Defrost your fridge and freezer, wipe it out with Clorox wipes.

Living Room

  • Remove the cushions from your sofa and chairs and vacuum them.  Vacuuming your upholstered furniture is the best way to preserve it and help it last.
  • Wash or dry clean your heavy blankets and throws, store them in vacuum sealed closet bags to save room and keep them fresh.  Swap them out for light weight options.
  • Vacuum your and dust your window treatments.  If they are machine washable throw them in the washing machine.  If parts of your room get more sun, rotate the window treatments to avoid fading.
  • Wash the windows, inside and out.

Dining Room

  • Remove the china and dishes from your hutch or china cabinet, dust the shelves and wash items that haven’t been used in awhile.
  • Shampoo your carpets or if you have rugs take them to the cleaners.

    Bedrooms

    • Turn over your mattress to distribute the wear evenly.  Replace cool-weather bedding with warm-weather bedding.
    • Wash the pillows, whether made of natural fibers (such as down) or synthetic (often polyester),most pillows can be machine-washed. This rids them of mold, bacteria, and odors.

    Bathroom

    • Clean out your medicine cabinet and cosmetic drawers.  Check the expiration dates and toss anything that you don’t use anymore.  Most cosmetics expire after 3 months, if kept longer there is a greater chance of bacteria spreading (especially mascara and eye makeup).

    Home Office

    • Review insurance policies, contracts, and family documents.
    • Scrub computer casings with a solution of 1 drop mild dishwashing liquid per 1 quart of water and a lint-free cloth; dust crevices in keyboards with cotton swabs; wipe screens with a soft cloth or a dry screen-cleaning sponge.

    Closets

    • Swap out cold weather clothing for warm weather clothing. Get winter coats and sweaters dry cleaned and store them in a hanging garment bag.
    • Go through your closet, any items that you won’t make it until next winter toss or put in a Goodwill bag. Try on all of your spring and summer clothes to make sure they still fit and are still in style. There is no use filling up your closet with ugly stuff that doesn’t fit. Make a list of items that you need to add to your wardrobe for spring and summer so you can stay on track when you are shopping. If you need help with this please contact me, I love helping people determine what they need to keep and what needs to go.

    Outdoor Spaces

    • Scrub decks, patios, sidewalks, and driveways. If needed rent a power washer.
    • Wash outdoor furniture with a solution of mild dishwashing liquid and water and a soft-bristle brush. If your furniture is looking old and tired, pick up some spray paint for a quick makeover.

    Garages & Attics

    • Sort through items that are piling up, donate all of the unwanted junk.  Sort the rest into sections so it is easy to find, put items that are not going to move anytime soon in the back and the items that are used more often in the front.  Toss old storage bins that are cracked or missing lids (you don’t want to risk damaging the items inside).  Use concrete bricks under bins to keep them high and dry.

DeClutter, Stop Holding on to Old Cell Phones!

    1

    23.3.10

The average American gets a new cell phone every 18 months. Because of this statistic, there are over 24 million used cell phones collecting dust in basements and junk drawers across the country. I see this a lot with my clients, they feel bad throwing them away so they hold on to them. I urge all of my clients to donate these old phones to a charity. Here are a few organizations that will help to donate your old phones to great causes.

Collective Good: You can either follow the instructions on their website or drop off old phones at your local Staples store.

Wildlife Forever: Mail in your phone for a tax deduction and your phone will help battered women’s shelters.

Cell Phones for Soldiers: This organization will sell your cell phones and purchase phone cards for soldiers who are deployed, this is a neat organization with a great story.  They will send you a prepaid shipping label or you can help them even more by paying your own shipping.

    01.2.10

Chris and I were invited to play in a fundraiser bocce ball tournament to benefit a foundation called “19 for Life.”  The foundation is in memory of DJ Frandsen, San Francisco Giant’s player Kevin Frandsen’s brother. To find out more about the foundation or to donate please visit the website.  The event was held at Campo di Bocce of Los Gatos.  Their facility was amazing, the food was great and we all had a fun day.
