Real Confessions of a Shopaholic

Kuzak's Closet
A few weeks ago I shared the before and afters from a closet makeover that I recently worked on and the some of the details about my client, a self-professed Shopaholic.  After I published the post I received great feedback via email, blog comments, and facebook comments (thank you) which really made my client feel good about the progress that she made.  Many of you wanted to know more about how she prepared to let go and start the organizing process so I interviewed her after our last session and I hope you can relate to her through her answers.

When did you realize you needed help curbing your shopping addictions?

“I’ve had a shopping problem all my life and I was always bailed out by my parents.  There have been three instances that they had to pay my credit card balances of over $30,000 when I wasn’t able to.  When they passed away they left me a significant amount of money.  I thought it would last forever but about four years ago my financial coach Tari Vickery from Life Matters Financial Group made me realize that wasn’t the case.  She looked over my net worth and my financial habits and told me that I only had 2 years before I would be completely broke if I didn’t change my habits.”

New Year, New Look!

02.1.13

For the last few months I have been working on updating the look of the Kuzak’s Closet website and blog with the help of my husband and Stephanie from Parfait Creative.  We launched the fresh new look two weeks ago and I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am.

The new site has a completely different look than my old site, different colors, different layout, different logo, etc..  I was excited to make most of the changes and had a long wish list to work from but I will admit I was sceptical when it came to changing the logo.  I couldn’t imagine the Kuzak’s Closet brand changing that drastically but I’m glad I made the jump.  I like the new color scheme and look, it’s clean and sophisticated.  Can you believe the difference?

Method Vs. Dawn

5

06.11.12

I used to think that I liked Method dish soap only because of it’s cute bottle but I recently I found out the hard way that depend on it’s performance.  I ran out and went to Target to pick up a new stock pile but my Method was no where to be found.  I asked a team member to let me know where I could find it and they told me it was temporarily out of stock.  What!
After a bit of wavering and I decided that I couldn’t go wrong with a very similar looking bottle of Dawn.  I used to use Dawn and I always liked it, I just didn’t like it’s ugly bottle on my counter top. The new bottle looked pretty close to Method’s so I thought I couldn’t go wrong – until I tried it…
Vs.

I was so surprised at the lack of performance of Dawn compared to Method.  I had to soak and resoak my dishes to achieve the same clean feel, using twice as much as Method.  I gave Dawn the benefit of the doubt but I ran back to Target and bought several bottles of Method so I wouldn’t run out ever again!

I know dish soap isn’t the most exciting topic but what are your thoughts?  Have you tried Method or Dawn or another brand that I should know about?  Please let me know your thoughts!

My First Hoarder…

15.6.12

People are always amazed at the stories I tell about my hoarding clients.  They always wonder how I got started, why I choose to work with them, are they all crazy, can they be cured, etc..

Hoarders are a niche that Kuzak’s Closet has been working with since the summer of 2007.  It wasn’t planned, it really all started by accident.  My first hoarder called me and she said she had to move out of her home in 30 days, she said she had a lot of clutter and wanted to hire a professional organizer before the move.  Back then I didn’t offer a consultation because I also had a full time job and just didn’t have the time.

Gobble Meal Delivery

3

17.5.12

Catherine, a lovely client of mine sent me a free meal through a local dinner delivery service called Gobble.  The thought of a home cooked meal that I don’t have to shop for, prepare, or clean up after sounded like a real treat but I didn’t know what to expect considering the only delivery that I have ever ordered is bad Chinese or local pizza.

Chris and I took a look at Gobble’s site and we really liked the simple layout.   It is organized by day and each day has 5-7 dinner options with great photos and descriptions from local chefs.  The options change each day and so do the chefs so there is always something new.

We decided to schedule our delivery for last Friday night so we could have a easy dinner at home after a long week of work.  We ended up choosing these two meals cooked by Chef Alisa Chotibhongs

Khao Ob Sapparot
We will be making a traditional and elegant Thai dish of fried rice with organic egg, organic
grape tomato, organic yellow onion, organic green onion, organic pineapple,
cashew nuts, organic raisins and shrimp tossed and served inside a pineapple.

Panang Beef Stew
Chunks of tender stewed organic grass-fed beef in Panang curry sauce with steamed organic broccoli, topped with coconut milk and shredded Thai basil leaves. Served with a side of steamed rice.

On the day of the dinner delivery I received a reminder email letting me know that dinner was almost ready.  I scheduled the delivery between 5:30 and 6pm and it arrived right on time.  I loved the packaging that everything came in, aren’t the labels great?

It was nice to sit outside in our sweats and enjoy our dinner with a glass of wine. I ended up eating most of the panang beef (we were supposed to share) and it was so good.  It was tangy and spicy and I would definitely order it again…

Chris is all about presentation so I wasn’t surprised when he ordered an entree served in a pineapple bowl. The shrimp and rice were infused with the pineapple flavor and it was just as good as it looks.

This whole experience opened our eyes to a much tastier meal delivery option and we can’t wait to order from Gobble again. I will also keep it in mind as a gift for my clients and friends, it would be perfect as a housewarming gift or a treat for new parents.  Thank you Catherine for the meal and opening my eyes to a great local service!
