Spirit of Silicon Valley

10.11.11

Last spring I was asked to be one of the contributing authors of The Spirit of Silicon Valley, a wonderful book project based on real stories of people living and doing business in Silicon Valley.   I was so excited because it is my dream to write a book and being able to participate as a contributing author would give some insight into the process.

When I was brainstorming ideas for my chapter I wanted to find a way to bring all of the positive experiences I have had with my neighbors, clients, new friends, and fellow business owners.  Here is a taste of my chapter, if it intrigues you please order the book to read the rest of my story and the stories of many other Silicon Valley residents.

My husband Chris was offered a position at Google in the fall of 2009.  It was during the peak of the recession, and even though it would be risky for us to try to sell our home in Chicago and relocate our lives, we knew it would be worth it.  I had no idea what to expect.  Having only visited California through movies and books, my imagination was filled with visions of big cities, celebrities, and lots of traffic.  Days before embarking on our cross country journey, my husband asked me if I knew why the area we were moving to is called “Silicon Valley.”  I responded…”because of all of the plastic surgery?”   He just laughed and told me I would be in for a surprise.  He was right!

Our move gave me the chance to focus on transitioning my part-time Chicago based business, Kuzak’s Closet, into a full-time dream.  Due to the housing disaster, my own financial constraints and risks of starting fresh in a new place, I had to act quickly and make every day count.   My goal is to build Kuzak’s Closet into a household name.   I am a Professional Organizer and I help my clients organize their homes to create more functionality and efficiency.  My service sells itself, not only do I help people get organized, I sell what they don’t need online for cash back in their pockets.” To Be Continued…

Back Home Magazine

25.10.11

My easy DIY grapevine wreath from last fall was featured in the most recent issue of Back Home Magazine.  My copy came in the mail over the weekend and the article turned out great, the writer used my pictures to illustrate her simple and educational tutorial.  I was overly excited to see this project in print because I am not much of a crafter, it just proves that anyone can use a hot glue gun to turn some potpourri and ribbon into something spectacular.
