How was your weekend? Mine was pretty uneventful but that was okay with me. My husband Chris has been training for a 100 mile bike race in Napa at the end of September so his weekends are all about workouts (so boring). On Saturday he rode 65 miles on his bike. I actually passed him on my way home from a morning spent with a friend (I can recognize his Michigan jersey anywhere) so I put some snacks together. He is also doing the Insanity workouts to prep for the race, have you ever heard of it? As far as I can tell it is a lot of jumping and push ups but if that is what it takes for him to complete the 100 miles race that is great.
On Sunday we did some projects around the yard to spruce things up. It might seem strange to you that we would be starting an outdoor project right before labor day weekend but in California gardening happens all year round. I have been avoiding putting any money into our yard since we moved in but I finally caved in.
I had my haulers Billy, Unga, and Eddie come over to help me with the project. I know Chris and I could have done it but it would have taken us two entire days, yuck. While Unga and Eddie trimmed all of the plants and trees Billy and I drove to Lyngso to pick up a few scoops of mulch. I kind of wish my I could drive the bulldozer around…
Lots of mulch! I bought 2 cubic feet, much cheaper than buying bags…
It was great to drive through the yard and see all of the rocks, it kind of made me wish I had a big yard renovation to do.
After Lyngso we stopped at Home Depot to pick up some plants to put on the side of our house and in the front bed.
While guys planted my plants and put all of the mulch down Chris and I made lunch for all of us. We had burgers, cole slaw, roasted red pepper dip, chips and salsa, and cheesecakes.
The final result looks great and I love that it should be really low maintenance for us to maintain. Hopefully my landlord drives by and sees how great it looks and doesn’t raise our rent when we renew our lease.
Much improvement since I shared my wicker table transformation back in March.
It’s going to look so nice once everything fills in…
We even planted along the right side of the house and it looks a lot better. The plants will eventually have big blue flowers on them so that will be pretty.
The guys trimmed the orange trees way back so now I can see out of the kitchen windows while I am cooking. It is probably my favorite part of the front yard makeover.
We also put mulch in the backyard and we finished the makeover with some pretty lights. I put them on a timer so they will be one when we get home at night and they will turn off right before we go to bed.
I am really happy with the changes we made over the weekend, even if we had to cheat a little bit and ask for some help. What did you accomplish over the weekend?

Love the yard! I laughed at your comment that you would like to drive the bulldozer. It reminds me of you and your weedwackers in Poland.
We rode around town looking at houses! I want a house like that. however some of the yards of the houses I looked at don't look as good as ours. Ny husband loves to work in the yard and did a lot of work.
I love looking at houses too. My husband wants to work on our lawn next!
Did you plant the blue flowers that I loved so much in Cali? and saw everywhere?! Love the curb appeal makeover!
Yes, we put the blue flowers on the side of the house. They are a type of Lili and I hope they grow really big and add lots of color to that side of the house.
Looks great, was that an orange tree I saw? We have a massive lemon tree that fruits 9 months of the year, our poor orange isn't doing well.
Results are just lovely, well done
Wow…sounds like you are every landlord's dream. Yard looks great!
Wow, I've never seen such a large pile of mulch! What kind of landscaping mulch did you get?
Just the basic bulk mulch that they sell at the garden supply shop I think.
