Last Sunday I started my morning at Starbucks with a latte and headed to HomeGoods for a little retail therapy. It was the perfect time to shop, the store had just opened and I had the place to myself. I wanted to snatch up some fall decorations before they put out the Christmas stuff, seriously, you know the Santas will be on the shelves by October 1st! I had a nice trip and found a few cute things, including a cute piece of sparkly leaf garland…

It was in the high 90s on Sunday so I decided to stay cool inside and start some DIY projects that I have been wanting to tackle. I’m not the craftiest person but I wanted to turn some scrap pieces of wood from an estate cleanout into signs cute signs and a chalkboard for our house. Why let them go to the dump when they can be turned into something cool?

I decided to update an old fall wreath, this is how it turned out…
You might recognize this wreath, it used to look like this…
I loved the old look but the pine cones and pumpkins started falling off last fall and I knew this year it would be time for an update. I wanted to put something together that would look rustic and simple so I wrapped the glitter garland around the top and painted a pumpkin on a piece of wood to insert in the middle.
I started by drawing a pumpkin (or what I think I pumpkin looks like) onto the board and then filled it in with white paint. Then I painted the board with a bronze paint and let it try. I put 2 coats of white and bronze paint on and then brushed Martha’s gold glitter paint onto the pumpkin to give it some shape and more sparkle.
It doesn’t look perfect but that’s what I like about it. I put it on our front door and all of the glitter really sparkles with the natural light, it even looks festive at night with my front porch light on.
The best part is that I can paint something different on the back side and switch it up when I want to. Talk about a simple update!
I put the rest of my fall decorations out even though it still feels like summer here! I figured it would be nice to see what I have and what I need before Halloween takes over!
Have you started decorating for fall? Where do you buy your decorations?
