Afternoon in Savannah

Because it is so close to Hilton Head Island, I decided to fly in and out of the Savannah airport. It was much cheaper than flying to HH directly and it gave me an excuse to enjoy the city for an afternoon.

Savannah is a historic city with a beautiful riverfront filled with shops and restaurants and neat squares.  Before I flew back to California I stopped with my mom and dad to see the sights and have lunch.

Our first stop was River Street Sweets for some homemade pralines.  These treats are NOT friendly on the waistline but they are totally worth it.  We walking into the shop and it smelled like sugar and butter and I loved every minute of it.  I liked the traditional pralines the best but I brought home an assortment for Chris to try, God knows he could use a few extra pounds.

Making the chocolate caramel turtles…

Yum!  These were Chris’ favorite treat that I brought home…

For lunch we stopped at a local pub for traditional southern shrimp and grits.  They were loaded with butter, garlic, and cheese, yum!

After lunch we needed to burn a few calories so we walked through more shops historic squares…

You can see the state capitol in the background…

And we ended up at Lady & Sons, Paula Deen’s restaurant.  We didn’t stop in for a deep fried Cheeseburger but we did venture through Paula’s shop.

And I got to meet Paula herself…just kidding!

Savannah is such a pretty city, I love the historic buildings and the cobblestone.  Next time I will try to see more!

Well, that concludes my Easter trip to South Carolina.  I hope you enjoyed all of the pictures!
