Pebble Beach, Carmel, and Google

Sorry I was absent from the blog last week. My mom and sister were visiting from Michigan and we were really busy enjoying the California sights.  Being the professional organizer that I am I had an itinerary set for them so they would know what we would be up to and what to pack.  They were here for 6 days so I planned a day trip to Pebble Beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea and an overnight trip to Sonoma and Napa.  The rest of the time was spent checking out local hot spots like Stanford, downtown Los Altos, and Google.  The trip flew by and I wish they could have stayed for another week!

Our first stop was Pebble Beach to see the links and have lunch on the 18th green. We live inland from the ocean and the bay so the temps around our house stay in the high 70s and mid 80s. The closer you get to the ocean and the bay the lower the temps get.  When we left for Pebble Beach my husband told us to bring sweaters and I am glad he did because it was freezing.

We drove through Monterey so Ashlie could see the wharf and Cannery Row and all of the cute cottages on the ocean. (Click here to see pictures from a visit there with my parents in 2010). Then we started the 17 mile drive, stopping at all of the vista points to take pictures.  Even though it was chilly and overcast it was still really pretty.

It felt good to warm up inside the clubhouse for lunch.  We ordered Pebble Beach Cosmos and they hit the spot!  For lunch mom and Ashlie had their famous lobster roll sandwich, Chris had fish and chips and I had crab cakes.

I’m sure Chris really wanted a cosmo too but he ordered a glass of wine instead.  We didn’t want him to feel left out so Ashlie snapped this shot with his drink…

After lunch we walked down by the 18th green and watched a group of golfers finish their round. Then we walked through the shops before we headed to Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a cute town only 5 minutes from Pebble Beach (Chris and I spent our wedding anniversary there a few years ago).  Clint Eastwood is the mayor and it is full of cute cottages and shops.  We walked through some of the shops and warmed up with clam chowder at the famous oyster house A.W. Shucks.  After dinner we snapped some pictures on the beach before we headed home.

On Monday we slept in a little bit and relaxed around my house in the morning.  In the afternoon we visited Chris at Google for lunch which is always a treat.

There are colorful bikes all over campus for employees to ride to and from buildings because the campus is so big.   I think Ashlie got a real kick out of seeing the campus and all of the perks available for the employees.

After lunch we treated ourselves to pedicures at Pinkies
And then we had dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Los Altos, Puerta Vallarta.  They have the best margaritas and a nice outdoor patio.  It was our last meal with Chris because he had to work in Chicago on a special project for the rest of the week.
Tomorrow I will be back with pictures from our adventures in San Francisco, Sausalito, and Napa Valley.
