Oh how I love a good before and after, who doesn’t!  Did you know I had never taken before and after photos until I launched my business in California?  When I was working back in the Midwest I thought it would cross boundaries with my clients to ask them if I could take pictures, I didn’t want them to be embarrassed or think I was rude.  Now when I start working with a client they ask me when I am going to take the before pictures because they can’t wait to see the afters, my clients love to see the transformations at the end of each session. Some of them even keep the before picture around to remind them to never let the space become so disorganized again.  Every time I leave a client I ask myself if I offered enough value, and the pictures help me see that.  They are like a visual report card for me and my business.   Once I wrap up a project and compare the before and afters and reflect on things that worked well and things I could improve on.  Plus, it is fun to post them on the blog to inspire all of you to tackle an organizing project on your own.

I recently started working with a new client, a cute and hip mom who called me because she wanted her house back.  She moved into her husband’s house when they got married and her stuff got layered on top of his stuff.  Just as soon as they were ready to sort things out, they found out they were having a baby and now that little bundle of joy is a busy toddler who is always on the move.  Raise your hand if you can relate…

During our first session we tackled her living room, it only took us two hours to complete the transformation and the results are fantastic.  Before the space was filled with too much clutter and furniture.  When you entered the room from the front door you walked right into a large sectional, it was too big for the room and cut off a lot of positive energy so we moved part of it into their daughter’s playroom.  Next we rearranged the rest of the furniture and decluttered the bookcases, coffee table, and entertainment center.  My client was such a champ, she easily parted with dozens of cookbooks and novels, at the end of the session I took a truckload to charity.  When we were finished the room looked so much better, it was much more open and livable for her and her family.  She couldn’t believe we were able to make such drastic changes in a quick 2 hour session!  Check out the before and afters…

Since this project we have worked on organizing the rest of her house. First we moved into the dining room, then to her daughter’s room, the office, the kitchen, and now the master bedroom.   If you want to get organized start with small projects like this one and work your way through your house.  Set small goals and always have a reward at the end!
