Short on Closet Space? Get Organized with Before and Afters!

Getting organized is one of the top 5 New Year’s Resolutions for Americans this year and I am not surprised.  We all need more space, more money, and more time.  Being organized helps us obtain those things.

So many of my clients think they are short on closet space until they hire me to help them get organized.  I wanted to inspire you with an organizing project that I recently recently finished.   My client called me because she needed more space to store her clothing.  During our initial consultation we looked at all of the closets in her home and quickly determined that she wasn’t short on space, she just had way too much stuff.  The closet in the before and after photos was so jammed that she quit using it as a clothing closet and turned it into a dumping ground for old clothes, old makeup, kitchen and entertaining supplies, workout equipment, etc..  Because this closet wasn’t functional she had clothing all over her bedroom and piled in other closets throughout her home.

Before we could create a functional system or create a plan of action, we needed to go through all of her clothing to determine how many items she loved and wore often.  Because she hadn’t edited her wardrobe in over a decade I had her try everything on, and I mean everything! There is no point having a closet full of clothes that don’t fit or that are out of style!  As we organized her clothing I really focused on working with her on how and why her closet/home got this way.  It is so important for me to help my clients reflect and conquer any mental roadblocks before we visualize what their organized spaces should look like.  She now has functional wardrobe after working together for several sessions,  everything is organized by color and sleeve length on matching velvet hangers.

These before and afters are great, I can’t believe the difference!  I am so proud of this client, she faced a lot of emotions during our organizing sessions together.  We shared tons laughs along with a few tears in this closet.  I will be going back to work with her on monthly maintenance to keep her on track and I look forward to helping her shop for the items that she is missing in her wardrobe in the future.
