Organized Closet using Velvet Hangers

The key to an organized closet is “looking” organized.  You want your closet to have a continuous clean and clutter free look, just like your favorite store or boutique.  Last week I organized and edited my client’s master closet, he is a busy professional who wanted me to make the changes while he was at work, talk about trust!  I filled up 5 garbage bags with items that looked worn, out of date, or needed to be replaced, and organized them by type and color.

As I organized and sorted everything I installed matching velvet hangers, my favorite closet organizing tool.  His closet was filled with a mix of wire and plastic hangers making it look cluttered and sloppy, after my makeover it looks like a little piece of luxury.  My client was blown away with the difference it made in his closet, now he looks forward to getting dressed every day.  I hope you enjoy the before and afters!

You did such a great job. This is the most organized and cleanest closet ever.

My husband passed away on Christmas Eve and one of the things I did fairly early on was to clean my closet. I too used the velvety hangers and color coordianted each area. The one place I still have trouble is the hanging for pants and skirts. Just don't love the clip hangers and haven't found a great replacement :)
Enjoy your closet – mine is posted below: http://www.consideringitalljoy.com/2011/02/closet-talk.html

Thanks for inspiring! I went and bought purple, green, and aqua velvet hangers at TJ Maxx for $9.99 and now my closet looks awesome! Awesome post! Great tip!!

Don't know if you have a Walgreens near you, but I bought 50 of the black velvet hangers for $20! Gonna go back and try and buy some more. I'm slowly trying to redo our closets!

Wow! This closet looks great! I'm off to buy black velvet hangers for my own closet. Of course I need to do the sorting as well. Thank you Amanda!

What a transformation. Sadly my closet looks more like the before and I had been wanting wooden hangers (but whoa those are expensive). I'm inspired and am gonna have to keep my eye out for those velvet ones.

These hangers BREAK so easily! I am pretty upset because I threw away all of my old plastic hangers and spent at least 150.00 on these slim lines. They are slowly breaking at the neck (where the metal connects to the plastic) Stay away from them!!!! ( or save your receipts! )

Organizing even a simple closet can surely make wonders to a storage space. Being part of the closets Bergen industry, we understand the feeling when clients appreciate the effort done for them. It's truly priceless.
