How to Create a Photo Inventory of Your Shoe Collection

A blog reader asked me for shoe storage advice back in November and I shared a few storage options that would help her stay organized in her small place.  One of the suggestions was to store her out of season shoes in clear shoe boxes, stacked on the top shelf of her closet.  Today I am going to share my tips on how to make this option work for you, and how adding photos will really help you stay organized!

1.) Take photos of your shoes, I like to position the shoes like this so you can see the front and the side of the shoe.  Use the same position for each pair of shoes and the same background so the photos look uniform after they are placed on the clear boxes.

2.) Upload your photos and print them into 3×5 prints.  Tip!  It is difficult to find a company that prints 3×5 anymore, I uploaded mine and ordered them in 4×6 size and then called the photo shop so they would know to adjust the prints to 3×5.

3.) Place all of the shoes in the clear shoe boxes, then match up the photos to the shoes in the box.

4.) Place the photo on the inside front of the box and adhere it with 2 pieces of tape.  I always recommend putting the photo on the inside so it stays protected and the sides don’t roll up.

5.) Stack the boxes on the shelf and admire your collection!

I was able to give my client’s closet the feel of a custom closet without the hefty price tag.  We moved a shelf that was on the top shelf down to floor of the closet for easier accessibility to sweaters and workout stuff.  The shoes that she wears currently are organized on a rack on the bottom of her closet, when it is time to switch them out for the summer shoes on top.
