What’s In My Freezer…

Jan 12, 2012

I like to think that I am a pretty organized shopper.  When I plan out my shopping list I try to think of items that I will need for the next week along with things that would be nice to have around in the future.  I also stock up on my favorite items when I see them go on sale, especially premade meals and snacks.  Last weekend I went through my freezer to pull out some turkey and chicken for this week’s meals and I thought it would be fun to show you what I have hiding out in there.  Here is what is in my freezer right now…
Trade Joe’s Wheat Free Waffles
I love these for breakfast and snacks, especially on days that I need a lot of energy!

Green Giant Broccoli & Cheese Sauce
I pull these out when I am in a pinch for a veggie side dish, Chris really likes them…

Homemade Mac and Cheese
Whenever I make mac and cheese or gulash I do a double batch so I can put extra in the freezer…

Frozen Peas
My favorite thing to eat for dinner is Risotto and Peas so I always have a few bags in the freezer…

Trader Joes Gnocchi All Sorrentina
This stuff is just as good as Maggianos, I usually make it if Chris isn’t going to be home for dinner…

Yoplait Smoothie
Mix this with milk for 2 smoothies, I love that the portions are healthy!

Jack Daniel’s Pulled Chicken
I tried this a few months ago and I couldn’t believe to yummy it was.  They sell it at Costco in a
two pack, perfect for a quick dinner and it is a lot easier than doing it yourself!

Ore Ida Steam n Mash Potatoes
These are my newest secret weapon, I will be sharing a recipe using them tomorrow so stay tuned!

Good tip for freezing homemade foods: If it's a liquid, start by freezing it in a plastic container. Once frozen, pop it out of the container and wrap it in foil. That way you don't waste a bunch of containers and it takes up less space in your freezer. Don't forget to label it…freezer tape works great.

While I am trying to eat healthier, during the winter I try to keep the freezer stocked, usually by what is on special at the local (30 min away) stores. Hard to believe you could get by for a week or more by what you have in yours. I see a lot of empty (yet organized) space!

I am lucky to have two freezers and they are both full most of the time. This month I am trying to clear them out and use up stuff so they probably look sparse (plus I had all of the products that I photographed sitting next to me on the floor as I took photos).

Love peeking in other people's freezers to see what they stock up on. I can't wait to see what you are making with those mashed potatoes! Your recipes are always great! Thanks for the tips!

I enjoyed the freezer post. I saw some products I want to try out now! My sister and I get together every once in a while and do a huge grocery shopping trip together and then cook together. We cook at the same time and make double of everything, then split it up and send it home with each other to freeze! It is a fast, fun way to fill our freezers with homecooked meals for our families!

The Trader Joes Gnocchi looks like it would be good. I'll have to give it a try.

We make a Penne Chicken Pesto dish with spinach that is SO good. Another favorite is Beef Barley soup (all the soups freeze good.) We also make a potato ham casserole using Ore Ida hashbrowns that is good. I can't wait to try your potato soup. Like you, I have tried different baked potato soup recipes but they never taste like I am hoping for. Maybe I can try your recipe this weekend. It certainly is soup weather here!
