One of the highlights of our trip was riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tram 8,500 feet up to the top of the San Jacinto Mountains. It was crazy to be in the middle of the desert one minute and then on the top of a snow covered mountain the next. The tram was created in the 1960s and runs on cable along the side of the mountain while the floor rotates so you can enjoy panoramic views on the way up.
The tram was near a huge wind mill park in Palm Springs, isn’t is cool! I love the views of the desert and the snow covered mountains in the background. Here are some pictures I took on the way.
When we pulled into the parking lot I was so excited! We heard that the lines to get on were really long but we got lucky and were able to get right on the next tram going up! Normally I am a big chicken and Chris is really brave but our roles were definitely reversed, he was scared to death.
This is the view of the mountain from the parking lot, you can faintly see the towers going up…
On the way up I tried to take as many pictures as possible while still enjoying the view, here we go!
My parents enjoying the ride…
Chris made a friend on the tram ride, this cute lady was as scared as he was. They both gripped a pole in the middle and hung on for dear life. I should have been more sympathetic but I was having too much fun!
My mom is telling Chris to be brave, I don’t think it worked!
There are trams going up and down at the same time, each one pulls the other in the opposite direction. It was cool to pass another tram just to see how small we looked along side the mountain.
We were all surprised to see pine trees and a few feet of snow! Here is the view of the desert from the top…
You can barely see the wind mill farm that we passed on the way up.
There is a state park on the top of the mountain with hiking trails and camp sites. The day before we rode the tram they rescued a camper who went missing for a few days. I can’t imagine camping up on top but I guess it would be fun.
Back down to the desert…
Chris almost kissed the ground when we arrived back at sea level, ha! My dad had to drive back to the resort because Chris was too shaky. He was fine after a nice dinner and a glass of wine! It was so much fun, if you are ever in Palm Springs you should ride the tram!
