Finding a dress to wear to a wedding can be difficult, when you are the mother of the bride or groom it can almost be impossible.  Most dresses sold in bridal departments for moms are either extremely matronly or strapless and inappropriate.  My brother is getting married this summer so I have been researching dress options for my mom. Let me tell you, it is slim pickins out there.  Many department stores have limited stock in their stores which makes it difficult to find something, there are many more options online which I think is due to the current economic times.

The mother of the bride gets to pick her dress first and the mother of the groom should try to coordinate with her.  Try to wear subtle colors that will blend in and look nice in photos, you do not want to upstage the bride.  Navy is a very popular color this year which I am happy about, almost everyone looks good in navy.  Champagne, light blues and pinks, and shades of silver and gold are also very flattering.

I picked 3 long dresses and 3 short dresses for any mother to wear on the big day.  I did some research last week and I found that Bloomingdales and Nordstrom have the best options and the prices pretty affordable.  My best advice is to try everything on, not all dresses look good on the hanger.  If you need help from a professional shopper please contact me, I would love to help you look fabulous on the special day.
