Yesterday a reader contacted me for advice on what to wear to her upcoming staff party…
Dear Kuzak’s Closet,
I have an upcoming staff party and I need some suggestions for the proper attire.  It’s at a local pub/restaurant so it is not a formal event.  I want to wear something fun and fashionable and would love any suggestions you may have.  If you could even suggest a few fun pieces to update my drab winter wardrobe I would love it!
Thank you!

Dear Fashion Funk,

Ah, the staff party.  It is important to look professional but you are allowed to express yourself more freely that you might be at the office.  It sounds like you might need accessories and simple suggestions to turn your everyday look into something more fun.  It is important to have pieces in your wardrobe that transition from day to night.  When buying clothing or accessories for a special event, make sure you can wear them again, don’t waste your money on something you can only wear once. I hope you like my suggestions, let me know how the party goes!
Black is your friend!  I know it might seem like everything in your closet is black at times but it is a great color to start with.  You can wear a red or leopard print shoe with this top or lots of gold accessories.  I love this top because of the fabric choices and the asymmetrical hemline.  You can wear it to work with dress pants and a sweater and transition it to evening by wearing it with jeans and heels.  It is available on piperlime.
Accessories!  You can easily transition you look from day to night by adding more dramatic jewelry than you would wear to the office.  I love the jewelry from Banana Republic, these earrings are amazing!
New York & Company is always having a deal on accessories. This bold necklace would look great with a simple white t-shirt, jeans and flats to a pub party.  You could also wear it with a suit and heels to work.  It is simple but special.
Patterned blouses are everywhere right now.  They look great under blazers and cardigans and you will love wearing them all summer long.  I see 3 options for this top from Old Navy
1.) Paired with skinny jeans and knee high boots for a night out.
2.) Paired with cream or tweed slacks and a cardigan for the office.
3.) Paired with white jeans and sandals for weekend fun in the summer.
Invest in a classic blazer.  Blazers look great with jeans and slacks and give you so many more options for layering in a cold climate.  Pair your blazer with a cute sassy top and jeans for the party, you will look chic and sophisticated.  I love these 2 options from J.Crew sale.
