Talk about picture perfect! We were fortunate enough to help plan and organize this beautiful mudroom and pantry with a client in Menlo Park this fall. Our client has the most flawless taste and a designer for a mother who didn’t miss a beat when it came to choosing finish materials for the entire house. Lucky for me we were organizing this project (a complete home relocation) at the same time that I was choosing the finish materials for our new home. Since I didn’t have much time to make it to showrooms to see what’s in style, I used her home to help guide me. The backsplash in the kitchen and mudroom is very similar to what I decided to do at our house and my gut was to cover the entire wall so when I saw that she did that I was sold!
This pantry has the look and feel of a boutique grocery store or a vacation resort snack cafe. It has all of the staples and snacks that this busy family of four needs with lots of visibility for even the littlest hands to help themselves.
When it came to products I had two ideas in mind, clean open white bins or dark gray baskets with a little shimmer. I opted for the white because I felt like they would melt into the shelves and help make the space feel as grand as it really is.
We used these little clip on tags to label each of the bins and with a chalk marker the label can change as quickly as the snacks empty out.
I decided to go for cursive labels, (I know, you are probably rolling your eyes) labels do make a difference let me tell you. I typically do bubble letters but lately I’ve been loving this font even though it’s a challenge with my left handed-ness. These oxo canisters can be found at Bed Bath and Beyond or The Container Store. I’ve applied a large rectangle label to all of them for a modern look.
I always take snacks and bars out of the box and put them into a canister or bin if I can. There is something so fabulous about being able to take inventory of what you have with just a glance. I mean, there is NOTHING worse than reaching into a box of protein bars just to find it empty.
I added two shelf steps to increase visibility and storage space for canned goods. It’s simple touches like this that really make a big difference. You can also find these shelves at Bed Bath and Beyond or The Container Store. They are perfect for canned goods, spices, and even beauty products in the bathroom.
This little tea caddy is one of the most popular items our client’s request. It’s something Taylor found at The Container Store and I think it’s meant to be used for makeup but it’s PERFECT for tea!
They could be stacked on a pantry shelf but for now they look great on the pantry counter.
The cabinet drawers are designated for table dressing and linens…
All folded and pressed, ready to hop on the table at any minute!
So, if you back up you’ll see that the pantry is located just off the mudroom. On the left of where I’m standing there is a door going into the kitchen and on the right a door going into the garage. If I walk forward into the pantry and turn left I’ll also go into the kitchen.
I love this laundry room because it’s right in the hub of all of the action. There are two laundry rooms in this house, this one and another upstairs so if things need to hang to dry or sit in a laundry basket they might be upstairs. With large loads of bedding and towels cycling through this downstairs laundry room so my client can multitask in the kitchen, pantry, or her command center.
The tile is so unique and fun, I’m glad she took the risk because it totally paid off!
Opposite of the washer and dryer are cubbies and hooks for hats, shoes, bags, and jackets. There is a cushion still coming for the seat (I can’t wait to see that) making it the perfect place to sit and put on shoes and also drop off bags on the way in the door.
I’m so thankful to be working on such beautiful projects like this! Our client was organized enough to ask us to come in to review her storage plan as the house was built, purge the clutter at her old house before she moved. She also had us pack and unpack her and manage her move. It’s full service and it’s so worth it!
If you think this pantry and mudroom is the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever laid eyes on WAIT until you see the master closet. It’s so gorgeous, I can’t wait to show you, stay tuned!
