Balance is everything when you have your own business and I think I am finally figuring out how to take time out to enjoy my friends and family and not feeling guilty about it. This month I have been lucky enough to host my parents for a visit and enjoy a long weekend away with my friends Brooke and Todd. This post might be a long one but I am sure you will enjoy it!
I live near a great outdoor mall called Santana Row, my parents and I enjoyed a nice lunch there outside on Maggiano’s patio. My dad liked it so much we went back for dinner on their last night.
Knowing my parents were coming really got me motivated to work on the guest room. After a few trips to Salvation Army and Target it is starting to take shape, I will share a more in depth blog post soon. Chris’ parents are coming in a few weeks so I am hoping to make even more progress!
My dad really wanted to visit Lake Tahoe
while he was here so we headed up for a weekend. We drove around the lake stopping here and there to see the sights and have a bite to eat. This is a picture of Chris and my dad at a local pub for dinner. To see more pictures from the trip click here
During the week we stuck close to home so I could work a little bit and they could relax. A few days before their trip ended I took them up to Napa Valley, my mom and I
went there together last fall but my dad had never been. We stopped at Napa Style for lunch and enjoyed a few wine tastings in Yountville, my favorite little town. This is a picture of my mom and dad at Goosecross Cellars
after a tasting.

, my favorite place!
We stayed at Indian Springs
, a wonderful little spa resort in Calistoga…
This is the cottage we stayed in…
We relaxed in the mineral pool that is filled with water from the hot springs, it’s like Heaven!
Later in the month I was able to spend a long weekend with our friends Brooke and Todd and their new baby Talen. They needed someone to help with the baby on their trip and I was happy to help!
Brooke and I have been friends for over 10 years, we met at Alma College and lived together while I was in law school. Chris and I miss spending time with them now that we live in California!
Talen was quite the beach babe! Todd bought him these swim trunks for the trip, too cute!
It was hot in the dessert so we spent a lot of time at the pool, the sign said it was 97 degrees but because it was dry heat it only felt like 85 or so. Brooke and I enjoyed the $5 drink special every afternoon!
This was the view from our room, we were right on a little inland lake and we could watch the golfers go by from the patio.
We never left the resort and we didn’t need to! It was filled with amenities, great restaurants, a spa, 3 pools…
I am so glad I was able to spend some quality time with Talen, he was such a good boy on the trip!
Brooke and I hit up the same restaurant for breakfast every morning during Talen’s nap. Don’t these pancakes look divine? I had them 2 days in a row!
I was able to snap some nice family pictures of the Johnson’s…
and I loved taking pictures of these little guys…
I am so thankful to have these memories with my parents and my friends. Chris’s parents are coming for a weekend in November and then we are heading back to Michigan for Christmas and New Years. Being far away from friends and family is tough but it seems like we have figured out a way to make it work. I am lucky to have my own business so that I can control my schedule, I just need to keep practicing how to balance everything!
