Our guest room has been a work in progress since we moved into our current house last April. Since we are renting we are limited to what we can do regarding paint and flooring so I really had my work cut out for me! Our carpet is beige and so are the walls so it was important to add color and texture with the linens, flooring, and furniture.
This is what the room looked like weeks after we moved in, it was blah, blah, blah!
I knew I had to do something to spruce it up so that guests would feel
comfortable and so that I could stand to walk past the room every day!
I found a cute blue quilt, with striped shams and curtains at Target last fall.
I loved how it all coordinated and I decided to build the rest of the room
around the color scheme. I found some furniture at Salvation Army that
needed some TLC, here is the dresser before. I love the shape
and the original handles! I sent this picture to my sister Ashlie to
ask her opinion and advised me to snatch it up!
I brought it home along with some paint samples from Home Depot. I was looking for a blueish
gray color, something that would brighten up the room and remain neutral at the same time.
Here is the finished product! I kept the original handles, sanded it, and gave it 3 coats of paint.
It looks great with all of the other elements in the room.
These are the striped curtains from Target, I love the chenille texture with the nautical color scheme…
I have wanted to create a photo mural for years and I decided that the guest room would be
the perfect place. All of the pictures are of our family and friends, hopefully they will
all come to visit eventually (hint hint to my brothers and sisters!)
I bought the frames at Aaron Brothers, this project was the most
expensive improvement to the room but I love it!
My paper weight collection fit perfect on the top of the dresser, it adds nice color.
I brought this leather chair in from our office, it gives our guests a quiet stop to read or relax.
I found the throw at Target on clearance for $6, the striped pillow is also from Target and
it matched the window treatments. The raccoon pillow was given to me from my friend Larry
and the lamp was a wedding gift from my sister and her husband.
I spray painted the headboard navy which helps it stand out against the boring beige walls.
I found this cute navy and white striped duvet cover at West Elm, it looks nice layered with the
blue quilt and sham that kicked off the makeover. My mom and I found this cute California
blue quilt and sham that kicked off the makeover. My mom and I found this cute California
pillow when we visited Lake Tahoe in the fall. Now the bed feels cozy!
I found the cute nightstand at Salvation Army too. It was in really good shape, just needed
some sanding and some paint. I decided to paint it the same shade as the dresser
and I added a high gloss spray paint to give it a glossy finish.
Here is what it looked like before…
And after…
I found the handles at Anthropologie, I wanted something glass that wouldn’t
take over the look of the dresser or clash with the room.
The dresser has a picture of me with my grannies, a clock, and a cute
coaster from West Elm, perfect for a glass of water or our guests knick-knacks.
And let’s now forget the rug! I bought the rug originally for my office but decided
to move it into the guest room to add more color. It is also from Target and I found
it on Clearance. The floral pattern is really pretty, it adds a feminine touch.
Another look at the whole room, what do you think? Does this make you want to stay with us?
YES!!!!
So cute! You have really made this room feel so cozy! Love it! That dresser was a steal!
Yes it is cozy, it is calling your name!
I like everything except the striped bed linens…but I'm not a stripe lover. I do love the color of the dresser and nightstand. What is the color and brand of the paint?
Thanks for your feedback, I can't believe you don't like stripes! They are so classic! I don't know the name of the paint that I used but it was made by Martha.
The rug caught my eye – love it! The room looks great!
I LOVE this!!! My party just started…I would LOVE to have you stop by and share your projects!!! XO Aimee
Beautiful room! I love the chest!
