When you are researching an estate company for yourself or a client here are 10 things to look for when deciding if a company will provide value and a professional estate service for you.

  • Transparent sales, aka, sales you can find! You should be able to find a sale schedule and see past sale marketing on their website and social media sites.
  • Social media and email list subscribers, numbers do matter. If a company does not have a presence on social media chances are they will not market your sale on those platforms which is key.
  • A clear contract with a start and end date, ideally within 3-14 days. No one should have access to your estate for longer than that.
  • A photo of the owner/staff on the website. Yes, the company should have a website, this is 2024.
  • A clear structure of costs up front, avoid services that are billed on an hourly rate.
  • No big deposits.
  • Marketing, marketing, marketing, your sale should be easily found by local shoppers and beyond.
  • Value in additional services, hauling, shipping to family members, valuation of contents, shredding.
  • An itemized sales list at the conclusion of the sale with payment within 5 business days.
  • Workers compensation, general liability, commercial vehicle liability policies, a COI.
